So hold tight, because this one is quite the surprise. Niles Talbot (William Sadler) is an executioner whose skill exceeds the requirements of his position; he operates the electric chair. He finds great pleasure in activating the switch and observing life drain from those he condemns. After capital punishment is abolished and Talbot’s employment ends, he chooses to continue his work by pursuing criminals and administering justice himself. Being the very first episode of *Tales from the Crypt* adds a certain appeal. Our central figure, Niles Talbot, injects dark humor into the proceedings through direct addresses to the viewers. The technique works exceptionally well and establishes the overall feel for what’s to come.
