Purnell’s performance is excellent; the rest of the actors are generally quite good. However, the writing and production were disappointing aspects. The cast possesses enough talent to keep things afloat, and Purnell delivers a compelling lead performance. The intention seems to be humor, but it veers into broad farce, which feels dated given today's television landscape and audiences’ familiarity with storytelling conventions. Most of the jokes don’t quite land, and this issue is worsened by the cliffhangers sprinkled throughout. It resembles many predictable, conventional TV series; it’s certainly not on par with shows like *The Wire* or *The Sopranos*, which managed to incorporate humor without undermining their overall quality. A shorter run of ten episodes instead of six, combined with a less rigid adherence to formulaic structures, might have improved the show considerably. Another issue is its association with SKY Atlantic, suggesting a co-production—though not a particularly imaginative one. The visuals lack any distinctive style; it’s simply dreary England depicted through drab rainy settings like pubs, clubs, and houses. While this accurately represents England, there's a noticeable absence of creative camerawork or visual ambition, nothing offensive, just very functional in its presentation. The music is adequate—though even a track by Katy Perry wouldn’t have been costly to license these days. The rest of the soundtrack feels similarly behind the times, about five years out of sync and reminiscent of *Skins*, relying heavily on uninspired acoustic covers of well-known songs that are inoffensive unless you appreciate music. It probably deserves around 5.5 out of 10. I’ll consider watching a second season if Purnell is involved, but her career seems likely to progress rapidly, making it possible she'll be unavailable. Perhaps the show will eventually return, but waiting a year feels like an eternity, and ultimately, it’s quite forgettable.
