Synopsis

Cornelia Van Gorder, a writer of mysteries, had taken up residence in "The Oaks," a country house with a shadowed past. It was here, not long before, that a perpetrator known only as "The Bat" had committed a series of brutal murders. Unbeknownst to Ms. Van Gorder, the house’s owner, John Fleming, a bank president, had recently concealed a million dollars in securities within its walls – money he’d illicitly embezzled. He was found dead before he could recover it.
