The initial five seasons of the British crime series "CB Strike" are genuinely exceptional. The criminal investigations that unfold across each season’s six episodes are skillfully written, intricate, and captivating, and this extends to the characters who feel realistically drawn, deeply human, and easy to connect with. Strike, the owner of a UK detective agency, initially comes off as a stereotypical hard-boiled investigator. However, as his story progresses, it's evident that he’s more than just what he seems on the surface. His female colleague complements him well, bringing out his gentler, empathetic, and somewhat sorrowful qualities. Overall, this is superb television. The actors have great rapport, particularly the two main performers. Unfortunately, season six of the show doesn't live up to its predecessors. There’s a noticeable attempt to inject political commentary that portrays those on the right as Fascists, racists, misogynists and terrorists. It’s somewhat peculiar given that the UK government, which claims to be left-leaning, is currently restricting citizens’ freedom of expression. To put it simply, this is a strong series diminished by a disappointing final season that attempted some awkward political messaging. I would have gladly awarded it an 8 or even a 9 but as things are, a 7 seems appropriate.
