I approached the newest installment of Stranger Things with some doubts. My impression of the previous season was that it felt like a rehash of earlier storylines, and I worried if it would just be another predictable cycle. Fortunately, my concerns were unfounded. This time around, there’s fresh content and more depth to the history behind everything. It's appropriately unsettling as well, complete with plenty of 80's references and featuring one of my favorite songs by Kate Bush. The pacing is excellent, the settings are impressive, the performances are strong, and the suspense keeps you engaged. It also establishes a solid foundation for what’s to come. It’s disappointing that the prior season ended up being so underwhelming and straightforward; it was a letdown considering how promising things began.
