This is among the strongest portrayals of a character’s journey toward adulthood and independence geared towards younger viewers that I’ve seen recently, effectively tackling Steven’s unspoken struggles and development that weren’t explored in the initial show. However, it falls short of achieving the same degree of refinement or emotional resonance as the earlier installments. It's still a worthwhile expansion of the Steven Universe narrative, even if it doesn't quite reach the standards set by what came before.
