I generally avoid anything associated with "Star Wars" and Disney these days. So, it was quite unexpected to have to concede that "Skeleton Crew" isn’t terrible; in fact, it's even somewhat enjoyable for adults. Of course, being a new Disney production, I anticipated some degree of progressive messaging. Fortunately, it’s only a “little woke,” and while I personally find that really irritating and wish they would stop doing it, the instances are relatively minor. What stands out positively is that this series presents a story that's not entirely original but remains captivating. It evokes a sense of "The Goonies" from 1985 combined with a pirate adventure reminiscent of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island,” all set within the Star Wars universe. The narrative centers on a group of children, both human and alien, who become stranded aboard a pirate spaceship, embarking on an adventure far from their home planet. To complicate things further, space pirates are after them, hoping to discover the location of their homeworld, which is believed to be a legendary treasure planet. And there's also supposedly a Jedi involved, just for good measure. The series succeeds because it draws upon familiar elements—adventure, family, and friendship—and the special effects are predictably impressive. The actors have good chemistry with each other, which is another positive aspect. Overall, I never imagined I’d ever recommend a Star Wars project again, but "Skeleton Crew" is genuinely quite good. It may be partly because so much of what has come before hasn't been particularly noteworthy, to put it mildly; however, regardless of that, viewed independently, the series is decent so far. We are only two episodes in, so if they mess it up, I will update this review and rating. Nevertheless, as things stand now, it’s certainly worth checking out.
