"Andor" presents itself as a dark story centered on conflict and political maneuvering, but it doesn’t seem to belong within the Star Wars framework. If you were to remove the stormtroopers, X-Wings, and all of the familiar elements associated with Star Wars, it becomes difficult to tell "Andor" apart from other shows that combine a deliberately paced political storyline with scenes of combat. The tone is just too severe, brutal, and realistic to blend seamlessly into the vibrant, grand, adventurous universe George Lucas established in the late 1970s. Ultimately, it's an out-of-sync series; similar to elements found in some later Star Trek shows, it feels overly pessimistic for this particular franchise. If you’re looking for a space-based political and military drama, then maybe this will satisfy. However, for those of us who experienced the original Star Wars back in 1977 and were captivated by that fantastic world beyond our own, this series doesn't feel like it belongs. I can’t recommend it.
