The series Star Trek: Voyager centers on various groups—including Federation members, Maquis rebels, and the Borg—who find themselves sharing a single Federation starship, also called Voyager. Their goal is to return to their home area of space, specifically Earth, after being lost an immense distance away, roughly 75,000 light-years from where they started. This journey would take around 70 years using the ship's standard warp speed. Initially, Captain Janeway makes a choice to protect an alien species called the Ocampa, but this action inadvertently sends Voyager and the Maquis crew far into the Delta Quadrant, placing them incredibly distant from home. Following this event, the Maquis agree to join forces with Voyager’s existing crew. Throughout their voyage, the ship encounters numerous alien civilizations; some interactions lead to alliances, while others result in conflict. Even with these challenges, Voyager receives assistance from several of their newfound allies, which helps propel them closer to their destination. Notably, Kes, one of the Ocampa, undergoes a transformation and provides the crew with a significant advantage—a shortcut that reduces their distance to Earth by 10 years, bringing them within 55,000 light-years.
