It’s clear some reviewers just want to appear intelligent; their complaints come across as a clumsy attempt to seem sophisticated and important, like they're offering insights from years of filmmaking experience while simultaneously dismissing something they watched online. Each Star Trek show had its own distinct qualities—what made it appealing and where it fell short. What consistently set them apart from other science fiction was the way they prompted viewers to question their assumptions and what they took for granted as fact. It’s not an attempt at being politically progressive or delivering a sermon; rather, it presents a narrative to a superficial audience (the kind who use terms like "woke" and "preachy") and asks them to first understand what's happening and then consider it in relation to their own perspectives. I recall watching the original Star Trek series on my parents’ black-and-white television. Each episode felt like a lesson that challenged my beliefs as a young person, and it seems, much like today, many are more concerned with finding fault with the show itself than absorbing its meaning. I've watched every version of Star Trek, and I’ve enjoyed them all to some extent (even the cartoon!). This one feels different; it isn't Next Generation, Enterprise, Deep Space Nine, or Voyager. It’s even distinct from Discovery, despite seeming to evolve from that show. This series is the first to remind me of the original—after almost six decades, I believe they have finally rediscovered what made Gene Roddenberry’s “wagon train to the stars” so remarkable. Unfortunately, like the initial Star Trek, it seems most viewers are fixated on insignificant details and miss the point entirely. I worry that this show will be rejected just as a valuable treasure would be by pigs. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen, because this one—perhaps more than the others that achieved commercial success—deserves to have staying power.
