What a letdown—it felt like blatant plagiarism. The concept borrows heavily from "The Most Dangerous Game," where castaways are hunted and freedom is earned through survival. Then there’s “survive-to-win” territory already covered by films like "Cube," "Saw," "Death Race," "Hunger Games," and "Battle Royale"—a formula that even got exploited in "Squid Game," as did "As the Gods Will." The premise revolves around a father struggling to provide for his family who receives an invitation to a contest with a substantial cash prize. Predictably, people start dying, which quickly lost my attention. I forced myself to finish it, but the big reveal was shockingly underwhelming—really, that’s what they came up with? To clarify how this film fits into the pattern of imitators: in "Battle Royale," teenagers are transported to an island, and only one person gets released; there are rules, a time limit, and a goal. The same applies to “Squid Game,” with its established guidelines, objective, and timeframe. "As the Gods Will" features adolescents held captive by a bizarre head statue who forces them into deadly children’s games. Does that sound familiar? Especially considering how those innocent kids' games are twisted into horrific adult death traps in "Squid Game." The directing and acting were just passable at best. I grew tired of the protagonist very quickly; his perpetually shocked expression became tiresome. Some of the game designs weren’t terrible, but they also felt familiar—similar to what was seen in “As the Gods Will.” I'm giving it a 1/10 because it takes an already overdone idea and steals from it directly ("Hunger Games" remains one of the worst movies I’ve ever witnessed).
