Synopsis

Alex Wheatle recounts the life of himself, the acclaimed writer, from boyhood into early adulthood. Having spent his formative years in a largely white institution devoid of affection or familial connection, he discovers, for the first time, a sense of belonging in Brixton, alongside the burgeoning of his identity and his passion for music and DJing. Imprisoned during the Brixton Uprising of 1981, he is compelled to confront his history and discern a path toward healing.
