It turns out I recently connected with someone at work about this—apparently, I’m among the few people his age who recall the original animated series, and we both had really pleasant, though hazy recollections of it. We recalled how visually striking it was. The designs were all streamlined, artistic, and gleaming against the darkness of space. Both of us owned one of the action figures, which was neat, but they were larger than GI Joe figures yet smaller than He-Man’s toys—so they always felt a bit out of place. That might have been why sales weren't strong. Still, it remained pretty awesome, just like the cartoon itself. The show didn’t last long, but the animation was superb; it captivated my young imagination with its vibrant imagery and stark contrasts, and naturally space—because everything involving space seemed amazing, even more so than dinosaurs, which were essentially bird-like creatures—so, of course, I was completely mesmerized by the cartoon. It’s a little disappointing that the toys didn't quite fit in with other toy lines, though.
