Watching his dog scratch its ear with a paw against its foot, Sid attempted to copy the movement. He found himself unable. Intrigued, he began studying skeletons and realized that animals possess bones and joints structured differently from those of humans—a difference that enables remarkable feats, such as swinging through trees, soaring in flight, or even scratching an ear with a hind limb.
