Synopsis

The body of Maria Gibson, wife to a man of considerable fortune derived from gold mining, was discovered shot within the confines of their country residence. Mr. Gibson sought out Sherlock Holmes, requesting an investigation into his wife’s death, ostensibly to exonerate Miss Dunbar, the children's governess who had been accused of the crime. Was Mr. Gibson motivated by simple benevolence towards an employee, or did deeper currents lie beneath the surface of this perplexing affair?
