This miniseries, really four episodes each around 43 and a half minutes long, works well enough as a single movie if you skip the recap segments and credits—resulting in roughly two hours and 45 minutes of viewing time. If you’re looking for period drama and romance with some suspense, especially stories set in isolated British castles or estates before Victoria's reign, like “Jane Eyre” starring George C. Scott or “Sense and Sensibility,” this will likely satisfy. Similarities can even be drawn to something like “The Secret Garden.” The production values are strong; the settings, costumes, and overall design feel authentic, and Ryann Bailey is quite good in the leading part. Subtitles might be useful for understanding all of the dialogue. What stands out is how delicately the central romance unfolds—a stark contrast to more contemporary portrayals of casual relationships. Wolves appear briefly during one portion of the story, though wild wolf populations in England disappeared nearly three hundred years prior. It’s possible to rationalize their presence as a small, isolated group that might have migrated from Scotland, given the castle's location in northern England—though the last Scottish wolf was reportedly killed in 1680. The situation is comparable to the Tasmanian tiger's supposed extinction in 1936, despite over 1200 reported sightings since then. The indoor scenes were filmed on specially built sets in Lehi, Utah, in February of 2024; exterior shots took place in February 2025 at Raby Castle near Staindrop and Auckland Palace, both located in northeast England.
