The series proved unusual, without a doubt. I initially expected just another anime version of the book, especially since it reused the movie’s cast. But after only two episodes, the story veered sharply in an unexpected direction, introducing time travel and featuring Ramona's battle against the evil exes to locate what appeared to be a missing Scott Pilgrim. And speaking of him, he’s hardly present throughout most of the show. I understand the decision to emphasize this new storyline and explore other characters within Scott’s life; they are all well-developed despite feeling slightly unlike their established counterparts. I haven't experienced the original books, video games, or film myself. But his absence is noticeable – he disappears for a significant portion of the series only to reappear in the final two episodes to abruptly explain his whereabouts. It felt like, seriously, where were you?!!? They really should have named it Ramona Takes Off! This is easily one of the most bizarre shows I’ve encountered. I won't detail how extreme things become to avoid spoilers, but it gets incredibly wild, particularly in the final episode which just spirals into complete chaos. You genuinely won't believe what you are witnessing. Despite this, it remains a worthwhile show with excellent animation, voice acting from familiar performers, and a great spotlight on the supporting characters, all wrapped up in a distinctive style that blends video game elements with anime aesthetics. There’s enjoyment to be had for both established fans and new viewers like myself, even if they might feel a little thrown by how different it is 🤔. Regardless, it's quite good 👍.
