Scott & Bailey consistently ranks among my preferred police dramas, alongside series like Vera and Shetland. It's exactly what I've come to anticipate from Sally Wainwright, the creator who developed the program from an initial concept by Suranne Jones. The series evokes comparisons to the older American show Cagney and Lacey, which might resonate with viewers familiar with classic television or reruns. The focus is on a pair of female detectives; one balances her career with family life, while the other possesses a more rebellious and spontaneous nature. Some storylines extend across several episodes, while others are resolved more rapidly. These two investigators experience various challenges both professionally and personally. They occasionally err, but despite the routine police work and infrequent moments of insight, they generally manage to achieve satisfactory results. The acting is superb, with Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp leading the way—I’ve appreciated their performances in numerous projects. They are joined by Sally Lindsay and Amelia Bullmore, who also deliver strong portrayals. Kevin Doyle and Nicola Walker contribute particularly noteworthy characters, appearing in a smaller number of episodes but making a lasting impression; they embody their roles perfectly. I realize I've listed many names, but I’m simply so impressed with the ensemble assembled for this show. And I haven’t even mentioned Rupert Graves—alright, I’ll quit now. Did I already say it’s an excellent series?
