Synopsis

The samurai reached Kanna Village to find it strangely deserted. Many of its people had vanished. While Kambei conferred with the village elder, Kikuchiyo learned that the women had fled, taking the rice with them. He shared this news with the others, and they began the grim task of fortifying the village against the impending battle with the Nobuseri. Yet, a betrayal festered within the community's heart.
