Ikki appeared no match for Bud. When Shun and Ikki attempted a combined assault, they were both swiftly thrown back. Ikki then unleashed his Phoenix Illusion upon Bud. Within the illusion, Bud vanquished Syd, yet inexplicably hesitated to deliver the final blow. Confronting Bud, Ikki accused him of intervening during Syd’s earlier battle with Shun – a contradiction given Bud's stated desire for Syd’s death.
