It seems like he struggles to bring things to a satisfying conclusion—most of the time. With Stephen King, often the best part is the anticipation, and that buildup can be genuinely entertaining whether you’re reading or watching. However, the finale felt underwhelming, similar to what happened with *The Stand*, leaving a rather indifferent impression. The storyline itself has the feel of a low-budget horror film from drive-in theaters, which isn't necessarily bad because it doesn’t seem like they were aiming for something as ambitious as Shakespeare—who, surprisingly, was also a popular writer in his own time. It’s typical of King’s work; he excels at horror, and some of it is truly remarkable, like *The Shining* or *The Stand*. You recognize those titles. But generally, most of his stories offer the kind of B-movie enjoyment that's fun on its own terms. *Rose Red*, fitting into the haunted house subgenre, delivers a watchable experience with a pleasant cast. The quality does decline in the final act, but it’s lengthy enough that this doesn't significantly detract from it; we got the buildup we needed, and it was worthwhile.
