YouShouldKnow on Ranking of Kings

6/10 · Feb 12, 2023

A prince who cannot hear or speak aspires to be king following his father’s death—the strongest person in the world, apparently. That initial premise holds some appeal. He gathers a group of unexpected companions during his journey, and secrets about the backgrounds of those around him are revealed. This aspect proves somewhat engaging as well. However, the narrative lacks coherence. Characters who harbor animosity toward one another unexpectedly develop affection, individuals intent on killing each other abruptly come to their rescues, pledges of loyalty are broken only for forgiveness to be granted moments later—and so forth. It’s a storyline that is difficult to follow and would likely require multiple viewings with detailed notes to fully grasp. While it's true that people aren't straightforward, not everyone behaves like small children, consistently making impulsive choices and escaping consequences. The series has its moments of interest, but I became so lost in the plot that I ultimately didn’t feel motivated to complete it.
