I’m really struggling to understand what went wrong with this one. The initial premise held so much promise. I’ve never been someone who dismisses religion; in fact, I appreciate its historical significance and how it contributed to the development of our society, culture—everything we often overlook. The notion of portraying religious extremists as antagonists within a science fiction setting seemed brilliant, full of potential for rich storytelling. I was also genuinely intrigued by the idea of humanity being raised by robots, essentially an endangered species, set against the backdrop of fundamentalist religious beliefs. It felt like a truly exceptional foundation for a science fiction series, and even in just the first episode, the acting was remarkable. The androids even had mannerisms reminiscent of Alexis—asking things like, "Would you like to hear a joke?" Based on that start, I expected something monumental. But then they failed to capitalize on it at all! Absolutely nothing. Not one thing. The concept was so full of possibilities, practically overflowing with material for the writers to work with... and they didn’t use any of it. There's no delving into deeper themes, no examination of potential consequences—just a series of disconnected occurrences. It’s simply a sequence of events lacking any real substance. And what makes it so disappointing is that the concept practically begged for something creative and imaginative to emerge.
