Synopsis

A ribbon of iron, it stretched from Newcastle westward, a parallel to the ancient Hadrin’s Wall. Conceived as a bulwark against invasion for the Roman Empire, the railway journeyed onward, past Lancaster, and then into the heart of Cumbria's wadden coast and the breathtaking landscapes of the Lake District.
