There’s been a trend recently of reviving well-known shows without understanding what initially made them successful. Simply using a familiar title doesn't guarantee a show will be good; it isn't some kind of charm that automatically makes things work. This "new" version of the series is an example of this. The original, with Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell, benefited significantly from the actors’ strong rapport and subtle humor, as much as from its time-traveling plot. The reboot isn't completely terrible, but it falls far short of the original. Really, apart from the title, the show could have been called anything else; it only shares a surface-level resemblance to the earlier series in terms of the main storyline. I also feel that the constant attempts by today’s entertainment industry to promote social justice and progressive viewpoints are detrimental. Viewers notice this, and I, along with many others, find it grating. Repeatedly pushing an agenda can backfire; at least, that's my experience, and I imagine many people share that view. It tends to create opposition instead. Overall, the show is passably entertaining, but the connection between the actors isn’t present like it was in the original series, nor is the humor. The predictable social messaging doesn't improve the viewing experience, at least not in my estimation.
