Synopsis

A string of murders stretching across the American Southwest draws Sam and the VCTF team to an unexpected pair: Josie Wells, a woman of thirty-two, and Alex Lopez, a sixteen-year-old boy who, it seems, abducted her from a children's soccer field in Boulder, Colorado. Sam pieces together a picture of a woman scarred by childhood abuse, who has left behind a bleak marriage to recapture a lost sense of self with the boy she connected with on a counseling hotline.
