I’ve always enjoyed Ben Miller's work, especially his portrayal of a wry character within the British series Primeval, which dealt with science fiction themes. The part had the potential to be quite flat, but he brought humor and complexity to it—though that was also thanks to the writing. He performs well in this challenging role as well. His character can come across as arrogant and superior, yet somehow manages to still inspire empathy and a favorable impression. The actors playing the other characters are good too. I noticed some moments where the plot felt familiar, but it didn’t detract significantly from my enjoyment. This program has been adapted elsewhere internationally; there was even a Dutch version that aired on PBS, so clearly others recognize its appeal.
