I wasn’t raised with a fascination for dinosaurs; my interests leaned more toward DC comic book superheroes. However, I developed an appreciation for them through the Jurassic Park films, which presented compelling narratives and believable dinosaur portrayals. Time travel stories have always appealed to me, and this show manages to blend those two science fiction elements together. It seemed like something I’d enjoy, and my initial impression of series one was positive. There are several suspenseful scenes, the creatures feel authentic, and there's a good amount of humor throughout. Ben Miller’s performance as the head of the secretive government agency handling the incursions stood out; he brought a sarcastic edge to the part that could have easily become a stereotypical, rigid character. The plots were engaging, and the cast members generally had a good rapport with each other. If they decide to remake it someday, there are some adjustments I’d recommend. Connor's storyline would benefit from introducing a romantic interest outside of the team; his pursuit of Abby quickly became tiresome. And I question the necessity of Helen Cutter’s frequent and unexplained appearances—she functions like an unpredictable deity in a Greek play. Her reasoning for her actions regarding the anomalies is never adequately explained, and she comes across as rather unpleasant, especially considering how long it's apparently been since she last had a relationship. Eliminating her character could actually allow Nick Cutter to develop more fully. The first series concludes with a significant cliffhanger and a major reveal, which suggests that a second season was already approved when they filmed the finale. I found series one enjoyable and plan to watch the subsequent seasons and provide an update later. Quality science fiction shows—even decent ones—are not always easy to find.
