Freedom Machines, a 2004 documentary from PBS/P.O.V., explores disability in the context of technological advancement. It shares deeply personal stories of individuals ranging in age from eight to ninety-three, whose abilities and self-reliance are flourishing thanks to modern assistive technologies. Nearly two decades after the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, the film considers the disparity between the Act's ideals and the lived experiences of the nation’s largest minor
