Godber began boxing and swiftly secured a spot in the prison championship, prompting Fletcher to envision an opportunity for some discreet wagering. Soon after, Harry Grout became involved, declaring that the fight was “fixed.” With a rival of Grout’s then showing interest in Godber's opponent, it appeared no one could emerge victorious. Yet, Fletcher harbored different plans.
