Synopsis

The evidence pointed inexorably to Jacob Levine, son of a Jewish butcher who had suffered persecution. Suspicion settled upon him, the inheritor of a painful legacy. But as the case progressed, a surprising figure emerged: the prosecuting attorney, David, a man Wambaugh had long estranged from, and whose presence cast a long shadow over the proceedings. Wambaugh found himself compelled to defend Levine, a battle complicated by the unexpected familial connection that bound them together.
