Synopsis

Rufus Varner, an art collector of considerable renown, received a startling revelation from a respected art critic: his celebrated painting, "The Purple Woman," was not authentic. Disturbed by this pronouncement, Varner sought out Milo Girard, the dealer from whom he had acquired the artwork. The following day, Milo Girard was discovered deceased in his office.
