I really can’t stress enough what a massive disappointment the live-action "One Piece" is. It feels like whoever made it intentionally tried to ruin everything that made the original series so special for people. The acting choices are just terrible, to begin with. The characters we've come to know and care about from the manga and anime are played by performers who seem bored and unable to get anywhere near what their roles should be. Luffy is meant to be a lively, charming pirate captain, but the person playing him delivers nothing but stiff expressions and uninspired acting. It’s hard to even sit through. The costumes and makeup aren't much better. The characters look like they're wearing bargain Halloween outfits, and the makeup is so heavy it becomes almost funny. You can tell the people in charge didn't care about respecting the source material or the fans who love it. The special effects are ridiculously bad too. The computer-generated imagery used for the Devil Fruits looks awful, and the fight scenes are badly planned and don’t have any excitement or suspense. Even the ship, the Going Merry, appears to be made of cardboard and decorated by a young child. The plot is just a jumbled mess. It moves too fast in some places and drags on forever in others, with important parts glossed over and unimportant scenes taking up way too much time. It’s like the writers didn't understand what made the original story so captivating and decided to add random things to see if they would work. But maybe the worst thing about this live-action version is that it completely ignores what "One Piece" is really about. The series is celebrated for its important themes of friendship, freedom, and adventure, but this adaptation turns it into an empty show with no real meaning or feeling. Simply put, this live-action "One Piece" is a complete failure that shouldn't exist. It’s disrespectful to the original series and those who love it, and it’s a perfect example of how not to adapt a popular anime and manga for live action. Do yourself a favor and don’t bother watching this mess.
