Synopsis

A generation ago, diseases like whooping cough, measles, and mumps had been largely conquered in the United States. Now, they are reappearing, in part due to parental anxieties leading some to forgo their children's vaccinations. NOVA’s "Vaccines—Calling the Shots" journeys across the globe to document these outbreaks, examine the science of immunization, explore the dilemmas faced by parents grappling with vaccine concerns, and illuminate the potential consequences of choosing not to vaccinate.
