Synopsis

The documentary *NOVA* journeys with a team of archaeologists and spelunkers into the Rio la Venta Gorge, a deep chasm within the Chiapas jungle of Central America. Within the rugged canyon, they discover caves teeming with remarkable remnants of the Zoque people, who flourished centuries before the Maya. The caves' challenging access and dry climate have remarkably preserved rare artifacts: bones, textiles, rope, and ornaments. Following the river downstream, the team unearths a legendary city
