Synopsis

Paleontologists and commercial fossil hunters employ a variety of strategies to locate rare and valuable dinosaur bones. These range from meticulously studying geological maps and analyzing rock formations known to preserve fossils, to following up on anecdotal reports from locals or examining exposed rock faces for promising clues. Often, they focus on areas with a history of similar discoveries, or where erosion has revealed layers of ancient sediment.
