Season one earns a rating of 7 out of 10. I wouldn't say I love *'Noughts + Crosses,'* not at this point anyway, but I did find the initial season enjoyable enough. The premise is certainly intriguing and quite layered, prompting some interesting ideas and situations. However, for the next installment, I’m hoping they handle the connections to real-world events with more finesse. Many of them feel rather heavy-handed, especially concerning "blanca." I understand what they're going for, but the show needs a bit more imagination – it shouldn’t just depend on comparisons to our world. The core concept of noughts and crosses itself is good, though I wonder if it could have been limited to the title or credits sequence. This ties into my earlier point about things feeling contrived, particularly in the early episodes. It's not a complicated idea, so we don’t need constant reminders – personally, I think it would be better if it were more subtly presented through the title/credits. The acting is generally good. Masali Baduza as Sephy stands out; her performance across the six episodes was excellent. Jonathan Ajayi, playing Lekan, also impressed me, despite what’s evident in his character's role. Jack Rowan as Callum is solid too, while Paterson Joseph (Kamal), Helen Baxendale (Meggie) and Shaun Dingwall (Dorn) all deliver dependable performances. More subtlety and originality would make a big difference, so I hope to see improvements in those areas for season two—if it happens, which I’m hoping for. Overall, it's definitely worth watching.
