I keep encountering discussions about how wonderful "British comedy" is. When I inquire about particular examples, suggestions include shows like Black Books, The Inbetweeners, or The IT Crowd. These are standard, predictable, and conventional sitcoms; they simply feature performers with British accents, without possessing any real British qualities. Nighty Night represents a different kind of British humor—dark, daring, and quite shocking. I'm inclined to believe Julia Davis possesses either extraordinary genius or an exceptionally cynical view of humanity for conceiving some of the characters portrayed within it. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
