Synopsis

Aaron listened intently as Tom explained his conviction that Xanthe had taken his money. He agreed to investigate, and turned his attention to Xanthe herself. She offered a carefully rehearsed account of her whereabouts on the day of the Lassiters explosion, but Aaron quickly detected inconsistencies in her story. With a protective air, he cautioned her that he could only offer assistance if she were honest with him.
