Britain boasts impressive colonies of puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes, and skuas; however, recently many have been failing to reproduce. In the summer of 2006, ornithologist Roy Dennis set out to discover why. He explains that as ocean temperatures rise, populations of sand eels – a vital food source for seabirds – are dwindling. While some birds are beginning to locate alternative sustenance, Roy believes they possess the capacity to adapt and endure with increased protection.
