Synopsis

Steve Douglas returned with his family to Bedford Springs, the place of his birth. He hoped to find Ellen, his sweetheart from 1940, still residing there—and indeed, she was, now married and settled in town. Yet, seeing her again brought a surprising disappointment. Though undeniably still attractive, she lived alongside a husband he found grating and with children who lacked any discernible grace.
