My Dress Up Darling _(Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru)_ focuses on Wakana Gojo, a high school-aged young man. Because he dedicated himself to recreating his grandfather’s skill in crafting hina dolls, Wakana tends to be reserved. The intense focus and precision needed for the doll making has meant that he's spent much of his time alone, from middle school through high school. This situation definitely impacted his ability to interact with others, and he generally keeps himself out of the spotlight. That changes when he meets someone… Marin Kitagawa is a vibrant, popular girl who’s very sociable; her energetic nature leads her to seek Wakana's assistance with a cosplay costume after noticing his sewing abilities. Marin appreciates that this kind, polite young man not only has talent in creating clothes but also doesn't think her interest in cosplay is unusual for a girl. She’s equally pleased when Wakana’s expertise with hina dolls means he demands the highest standards of quality for her costume designs. Their collaboration unexpectedly leads to a gradual development of friendship, enthusiasm, challenges, learning new things about techniques and people as Marin introduces Wakana to the cosplay world. As events unfold, Marin begins experiencing evolving romantic feelings toward her tall, quiet costume designer. Unbeknownst to her, Wakana is also developing affections now that he’s socializing more with the pretty part-time magazine model. Will their shared passion for cosplay lead them to become something beyond just collaborators? As someone who enjoys action sequences, sci-fi visuals, and scantily clad women with noticeable figures, I have to admit I wasn't particularly impressed by the first season of this series and how it played out.
