This new series is easily among the dullest offerings of the 2021 television year. It echoes an earlier program, sharing a similar title and plot—The Mayor—which was quickly removed after only a few installments. The fact that it’s managed to continue for seven episodes despite offering nothing fresh is baffling! Considering Tina Fey's involvement as a writer, one has to wonder if her creative well simply ran dry after working on 30 Rock. Ted Danson, who delivered such a memorable performance in The Good Place, seems to have hit an all-time low with this production; at 71 years old, he’s attempting to portray the father of a teenager. And then there's Holly Hunter, whose vocal talents were so well-suited for voicing Helen Parr / Elastigirl in The Incredibles—here, she comes across as an elderly battery on stimulants! The team around Danson, his mayoral staff, is equally disappointing; he himself doesn’t fare much better in the role of mayor. There's nothing about this show that makes it worthwhile.
