Synopsis

The Massachusetts Central Artery/Tunnel Project, famously known as The Big Dig, stands as the most ambitious municipal construction undertaking in American history. Its aim was to modernize Boston’s aging highway system by creating a new network of 160 miles of roadway, with half of that distance tunneled beneath the city and extending underwater. Following fourteen years of intensive work, the project ultimately cost $11 billion.
