Synopsis

For the past two years, we’ve been documenting the construction of the new California Department of Transportation headquarters in downtown Los Angeles—a sprawling 700,000 square-foot office building—and we're using it as a case study to examine the challenges inherent in constructing monumental skyscrapers, from landmarks like the Empire State Building and Sears Tower to TAIPEI 101. In the second hour of our program, the steel framework is complete; however, before installation of the windows a
