"Mobland" is an over-the-top British crime drama that manages to be entertaining despite itself. The series has the feel of a parody aimed at portraying British organized crime bosses. Its exaggerated style, familiar character types, and occasionally unbelievable plot developments detract from its believability. Tom Hardy delivers another excellent performance as the head of the family’s enforcement and problem-solving operations, while Pierce Brosnan is adequate in his part as the family's leader. Helen Mirren, whom I haven’t always found particularly impressive, does a good job playing the role of Brosnan's clever and criminally unstable wife. So far, there isn't anything groundbreaking here, but what we have is generally enjoyable to watch. The storytelling moves along well, with a strong narrative and imaginative storylines within storylines. Overall, I do enjoy "Mobland." It’s true that it doesn’t break new ground, and it can be excessive at times, but there's still plenty here that's interesting and captivating enough to warrant checking out.
