The precise mechanisms of the placebo effect remain a subject of intense inquiry. Current research suggests that placebos harness the potential of the subconscious, triggering self-healing responses within the individual. I had the privilege of contributing to McGill University’s pioneering investigation into a placebo enhanced by an assistive device. Could an inert, non-operational “Sham Brain Scanner” empower children with ADHD and other neurological challenges to mitigate their own symptoms?
