Synopsis

Dr. Lydgate found himself facing a severe financial crisis, and numerous possessions were seized as creditors came calling. His wife, Rosamond, had secretly appealed to his uncle Godwin for assistance – a sum of £1000 – but Godwin chose to respond directly to Lydgate with an unusually discouraging letter.
