With Tess’s surgery drawing near, a sense of mortality began to settle upon her, prompting her to write a letter to Charlotte. She wished for her niece to understand her, should she not be there to guide her. Meanwhile, Claire found herself recalling a past friendship when an old acquaintance unexpectedly reappeared.
