Having watched both the first and second seasons without having read the book, I went into this series expecting a certain tone—something frightening or at least steeped in darkness, given its focus on witches. There are many TV programs about witches out there, but *Salem* stands out as exceptionally well-executed and genuinely dark. This show, however, doesn't manage to capture either of those qualities. I’m still unclear on the overall narrative after investing time in two full seasons. Essentially, the premise involves a group of witches who revere a powerful entity that manifests in the world and eventually takes human form; that’s the entire plot, stretched out over two seasons. The pacing is incredibly slow. You might anticipate some level of suspense or darkness, but it's absent entirely. This supposed demonic figure isn't frightening at all, seeming more like someone lost and uncertain, ultimately revealed to be something akin to a benevolent figure rather than a demon. While the actors deliver solid performances, a compelling story is essential, and its absence undermines everything else. It’s fairly dull overall. I found it passable enough to watch, but each episode left me eager for it to conclude so I could move on. Even shows aimed at younger audiences centered around witches (*The Circle*, *Shadowhunters*) proved more engaging. There's a distinct lack of activity here. And there have been numerous superior programs that were prematurely canceled (*Damien*, *The OA*)...
